Soil Secrets
Hydrangeas are picky eaters.
Use premium potting soil—the kind that makes roots do a happy dance.
Avoid seed-starting mixes or peat-heavy blends. They’re too light and fluffy for this diva. You need something that will hold onto some water.
Water Like You Mean It
Check daily, especially when the sun’s throwing a tantrum.
Water until it flows out the bottom—no half-hearted sprinkles!
Feed Me, Maybe?
Seasonal guests: No fertilizer needed.
Permanent residents: Use flowering shrub or rose fertilizer in spring. Stop by late July—no late-night snacks because we do not want to encourage new growth right before winter!
